Bio:
Vanessa Libertad Garcia is a
Cuban-American filmmaker & writer who grew up between the burbs’ and
hoods of Los Angeles. She has worked in various capacities as
writer, director, and producer on fiction films such as A Two Woman
One Act and documentaries such as Maid in America, which debuted on
PBS’ Independent Lens. Her first book, The Voting Booth After Dark:
Despicable, Embarrassing, Repulsive is drawing laudable reviews. She
presently has a feature film titled Dear Dios based on the books’
characters and a collection of poetry in development.

Josefina López |
Josefina López
is best known for authoring the play and coauthoring the film “Real
Women Have Curves” which won the Audience Award at
Sundance in 2002. She is the founder and Artistic Director of
“Casa 0101 Theater Art Space” in Boyle
Heights, where she teaches screenwriting and playwriting.
Josefina has won numerous awards, including an Imagen Award, a
Humanitas Prize, Mujeres
Destacadas, Women Making History, and the
Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Literary Award. Hungry Woman in
Paris is her first novel and she is working on her second novel
Summer of San Miguel and her self-esteem book Real Women Have
Courage.
