| | Volunteer Check-in: - Check-in at the Volunteer/Registration desk.
- Check-in at least 15 minutes early so that you can arrive on time to your volunteer assignment.
- All Volunteers should check in and check out after your shift. This will let the Chair Coordinators know that you are done with your shift for the day.
What to wear: - White T-shirt.
- Comfortable slacks/jeans, long shorts, or skirt. You might want to layer your clothing as we're never sure if we will need to shed or add sweaters or shirts! Please check the weather for that day.
- Comfortable shoes. Be prepared to stand, walk or sit depending on your assigned task.
- Sun visor or hat or rain gear -- weather dictating.
- Valuables should be left at home as there is no secure place for purses, briefcases, or purchases.
- SUNSCREEN. May be needed so please come prepared.
Training: - Online: Tia Chucha’s website includes general information that should be reviewed in advance – such as the schedule of events and parking information.
- Event Chairperson may contact you if additional training is required. The Chairperson for your job assignment will get in touch with you if there is special training or information you need prior to the festival.
- On the spot: If training is not needed prior to the festival, your Chairperson will discuss your role and assigned area at your event. Arriving at least 15 minutes prior to your shift will allow you time to review your assigned tasks and areas.
- Email: It is essential that you provide an email address and phone number on the volunteer form where you can be reached. Without that, the Chairperson cannot reach you to confirm your assignment or offer training.
- NOTE: If you have a cell phone, please bring that to you at the day of the event just in case we may want to get a hold of you during the day.
Parking: - Please consult the college campus for updated parking maps, garages, and directions.
General expectations: - Punctuality -- arrive early for your shift to minimize unattended areas and allow volunteers to pass information from shift to shift.
- Please wear a white T-shirt – required.
- Enthusiastic and courteous demeanor.
- Know your shift.
- Know where to park or have other travel arrangements established prior to the festival.
- You volunteer “freely‟, meaning the book festival does not pay volunteers.
Cancel or reschedule: - Please make every effort to contact your event coordinator if you can’t make your shift or if you need to reschedule to a different time.
- If you find a replacement person to take over your task, please have them contact one of the event coordinators.
- If you are unable to find a replacement, please contact the Volunteer Chair Corina Chaudhry AS SOON AS POSSIBLE at cmchaudhry@hotmail.com
- Rescheduling – If you want to change your volunteer event, shift time or day notify the Volunteer Chair. Also, please keep in mind that most slots will be filled by that date so you will need to be flexible about your new job assignment.
Thank you very much for volunteering. We really do appreciate it! The Festival cannot be successful without volunteers! YOU are very important to the success of the program. | |
